Collect Cars and Race How to Get Cars
Buy shop cars with gas, recolour them, skip panic Robux, and pick bodies that actually add distance.
Cars are the chassis you ride off the ramp in Collect Cars and Race. Gas fills the tank. Pets multiply the flight. The vehicle is what leaves the lip. A better body is not only a screenshot; shop upgrades in this game move the distance number. If you are still on the default ride with two code pets equipped and a full tank, the next honest purchase is a car, not another egg you cannot equip.
Open Shop from the left side of the HUD. The vehicle list is a ladder. Gameplay videos walk starter vehicles, then sports cars, buses, jeeps, boats, a pirate ship, and a submarine. Colour customization sits in the same shop flow: pick a body you own, then a swatch. Some rows are priced in the in-game pile (gas, and later the studs you earn from distance). A handful of listings are expensive Robux cars. Buy those last, if at all.
Compare models on the car tier list before you empty a tank into the next thumbnail. This page is the how-to: where to buy, what currency to spend, why the body matters, and which gamepasses actually help a car collector.
Find the shop, then read the price
The Shop button is on the left. It is the same panel that hides the code box at the bottom, so you have already been here if you followed Getting Started. Switch to the car list. Each entry shows a preview and a cost. If the cost is gas or studs, you can grind it. If the cost is Robux, you are looking at a premium listing.
Do not buy the first shiny thumbnail. Scroll the full ladder once so you know that buses, jeeps, boats, the pirate ship, and the submarine exist. Players who stop at the first sports car leave later bodies unbought for hours. You do not need the pirate ship on session one. You do need to know it is the kind of late shop goal the loop is built around.
After you buy, enter the car in the lobby before you launch. Sitting in the old body while the new one is “owned” is a common clip mistake. Equip, then ramp.
Gas is the real car currency
Most of the ladder is paid with the same resource you collect on the floor. That creates a fork every session: spend gas on the next car, or keep the tank for a longer launch. Both are correct at different times.
Buy a car when the next body is a meaningful step and you can refill the tank before you feel bored. Keep the tank when you are one good run from a rebirth or when pet slots are still empty. A car with no gas is a parked statue. A tank with a starter car still flies; it just flies shorter.
Farming that currency is its own skill. How to Collect Gas covers cans, treasure crosses, Auto Collect, and the gas codes. If car prices feel impossible, you are under-collecting, not “bad at shopping.” Walk the lobby. Dig the crosses. Redeem Update5, GasBoost, Update4, Update3, Update2, Update1, and FreeGas if you have not already.
Studs from distance help the long shop. 2x Studs at 289 Robux doubles that return. It is a spend-more-later pass, not a replacement for a full can route. Auto Collect at 399 Robux helps because every missed can is money you never earned toward the jeep, the boat, or the pirate ship.
Colour, Robux cars, and what not to flex-buy
Colour customization is in the shop. Videos show players painting a newly bought body before the launch. Recolouring does not replace an upgrade. Do it when you already own the car you intend to ride. If a swatch costs extra currency, treat it like a cosmetic: buy after the next mechanical step, not before.
Robux cars are the rows community videos flag as “very expensive” next to the gas ladder. They exist. They look loud. They are not required to play Collect Cars and Race. If you are still missing Auto Collect, extra pet slots, or a luck pass you actually use, those gamepasses change the loop more than a premium body you will outgrow when the next shop update lands.
A practical rule: climb every gas-priced car you can explain. Pause on Robux-priced cars until the rest of the stack (pets equipped, tank full, rebirth plan) is stable. The pirate ship and submarine are late-ladder goals on the in-game track; they are also the clips people remember. Earn them with gas when the price is gas. Pay Robux only when you know you are buying a shortcut, not a missing tutorial.
Why cars change distance
The official loop text is blunt: collect pets and cars to increase your distance. Gas is speed off the ramp. The car is the thing that speed is applied to. In shop-tour footage, swapping from a mid ladder vehicle to a later one jumps the distance readout on the same kind of run. That is why this wiki keeps a car ranking separate from a pet ranking.
You still need the other two systems. A pirate ship with no pets and 20 cans collected will lose to a sports car with Monster Pet, Universal Varan, and a full lobby. Buy in this order on a fresh account: codes, pets equipped, affordable gas car, then more gas, then the next car. Do not skip pets to “main a boat.”
Rebirth and extra maps such as Candy / Candyland do not retire the shop. New maps still want a body. If anything, a later map makes a weak car more obvious because the track is the whole point of the prestige.
What to buy this week
If you just joined: next cheapest gas car after codes and one equipped pet. Stop there and launch.
If you can refill the lobby without thinking: skip two cosmetic swatches and grab the next mechanical step on the ladder (bus, jeep, boat — whatever is actually next in your shop).
If you are staring at the pirate ship or submarine: confirm the car tier list still likes that body, confirm you can refill gas after the purchase, then buy. Do not prestige-break your tank for a screenshot.
If Robux is burning a hole: Auto Collect and pet slots beat a premium car for almost every player who is still missing cans. Read gamepasses and spend on the bottleneck you can name.
Cars are a shop problem with a distance payoff. Treat the ladder as a build, recolour for fun, and keep enough gas to prove the new body on the ramp the same session you buy it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for gas, pets, cars, and codes.
How do I buy a car in Collect Cars and Race?
Open Shop on the left, select a vehicle, and pay gas, studs, or Robux depending on the listing. Enter the new car before you launch.
Which cars are in the shop?
The ladder shown in gameplay runs from starters through sports cars, buses, jeeps, boats, a pirate ship, and a submarine, plus color options. Rank them on the car tier list.
Should I buy Robux cars?
Only after gas cars, pets, and a full tank are in place. Passes such as Auto Collect usually help more. See gamepasses before a premium body.
Does changing cars really increase distance?
Yes. Pets and cars both increase distance; gas supplies the speed. A new body still needs a tank. Farm that tank with the gas guide.
Can I change car color?
Yes. Colour customization is in the shop on supported vehicles. Paint after you own the body you plan to launch, not instead of upgrading.
